I can ping localhost and 127.0.0.1, but IE cannot resolve them. My
HOSTS file is intact. My Default Web Site in IIS is bound to "All
Unassigned". IE can find my web through machine name, but not using
localhost.

I have uninstalled IIS and reinstalled it. No good.

This has happened suddenly. I have multiple entries in my HOSTS file.
All worked at one time. None do now. I have found this problem listed
multiple times on this newsgroup, but none of the solutions have
worked for me.

Quite a challenge. Any takers?

If the website has a hostheader assigned to it, then connecting by the
localhost won't work. Also check your IE options to make sure no proxy
server is listed.

If this doesn't help, attach your hosts file and let us know what the
hostheaders are in IIS for your website.

Do you have a DNS server?
