I am having the same problem which was reported by Juhan Palm on
2002-04-16 in this forum. His post was never answered.

I have the Users Control Panel component and the MSXML 3.1 component.
When I go into Computer Management, everything works except Local
Users and Groups, which has a red icon over it. Attempts to use it
get the error message "Unable to access the computer OEM-... The
error was: Invalid syntax." Anyone know of a component I can add to
fix this?

Thanks,
Mike

I solved that once at a customer site, but forget the solution off hand.
Unfortunately I'm not near my Target Designer at the moment. I believe I
did a search for components with "Local" or "Policy" in the name and found
it.

Basically, you want the component which contains LUSRMGR.MSC.

The Users Control Panel contains lusrmgr.msc. You might have to manually add
the snap-in into the MMC Computer Management console.

Both lusrmgr.mgr and nusrmgr.cpl are on the target system. However,
User Accounts will not open by any method I have tried: from Control
Panel, selecting User Accounts does nothing. From Start-Run, typing
in nusrmgr.cpl does nothing. From Computer Manager, Local Users and
Groups give the "syntax error" previously mentioned. I tried today to
manually add the snap-in to MMC, but got the "syntax error" message
again. Any more ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Try these:
1. MSXML 2.6 (I remember MSXML 3.1 is getting added automatically by
many components, however 2.6 seems to be the fix for the .msc)
2. Make sure "Administration Support Tools" component with all its
dependencies resolved is added to your configuration.

Found it. Had to include the Credential Management User Interface.
(I also included Net.exe Utility at the same time, but I don't think
that matters).

Thanks for all your suggestions,
Mike
