I'm trying to assign an .msi package to a user who is a member of the local
"users" security group on a Windows XP machine. The .msi package is being
assigned properly (when the user logs in the installation occurs and icons
are showing up on the start menu and desktop) but when the user attempts to
run the application and finish the installation it is failing. I have read
numerous articles about this process and every one of them indicates that the
software will be install when the user clicks on the new icons. the problem
here is that because the user is in the local "users" group he cannot install
the software.
My understanding was that the software installation would run in the system
context as it is being assigned by group policy. Am I doing something wrong
here? How can I allow users whom are members of the local "users" group the
ability to install assigned applications?
Thanks for the help!
