Hi

After I upgrade my window2000 SP4 to Active Directory ( only one machine
in my network ) , I click "Active directory User and Group icon," I find an
error message saying similar : " Can not access this computer, program
database or library did not logon or register."

So I decide demote it from AD to standalone, but after I demote it
successfully, I can not access "local user and group " in computer
management anymore, it show a Red X in front of this function, which having
similar error message above.

Even I try to promote it again to AD, but still no use.

Anyone know how can I fix it and get my default NT accounts back,
please help!

Thank a lot!

Wes

Wesley.

When you take a stand alone server and promote to a Domain Controller and
Active Directory creating a new domain and forest, it will bring any local
accounts on the machine and import those to into Active Directory. If you
then demote the server back down, you lose all accounts except for the
default administrator and default builtin groups.

After you demoted the server, did you reboot the sever? After running
dcpromo to demote or promote you have to reboot for the process to finish.
If you run net accounts from a command prompt, what does the computer
role state?
