Suddenly a folder called "Local Settings" appeared on my desktop. It
is under Documents and Settings/Desktop/Henry and is marked both
hidden and a grey read only. The folder has subfolders, but all are
empty. I looked under my startup folder and under MSCONFIG and can't
see what's starting it.

I think it's a normal folder, but why should it suddenly appear on my
desktop? Any ideas?

Thanks

Each user has a Local Settings folder in their profile under Documents
and Settings. It is also at the same tree level as the Desktop folder.
It is possible you accidently moved it or copied it while doing some
file managing. Open it up and see if there is anything in it. Check
the profiles under Documents and Settings and see if there is any
missing.

Part of it did get copied to the Desktop Folder. I have no idea how
because I just don't mess with my profile. The other funny part was
the full Local Settings folder was where it belonged but the part that
got copied had a number of folders, but they were all empty.

Computers - ya gotta love em.
