Local network working, Internet not working on one machine

Environment: 3 machines (XP, XP Home, 98) connected to a
DSL/Cable Model Router. Router connected to cable modem.
All firewalls turned off. No IRQ conflicts.

My neighbor (really!) had everything working fine. He
then installed a 3 port firewire card by SIIG, Inc. as
well as a 1394 Dazzle hub to connect the video camera.
After this process, the interent connection was no longer
functioning. It turns out the entire connection from this
machine wsa not working. I have turned off DHCP for this
machine and hardcoded the IP address to remove DHCP from
being part of the problem. Once I did that, I was able to
see all of the other machines connected to the router, but
could still not access the internet. I did a complete
shutdown of the modem, router and all machines and then
brought the modem, router and each machine online in that
order. Didn't fix the problem.

Please email response to my email address.

Thanks in advance.

I seem to be having the same problem and I never had to
explicity set the DNS IP and router IP as the gateway,
even though I have done that, it still does not work.

Is there something else going on?

Again, this seemed to happen only recently, and I did not
change anything to my networking system, apart from
approving the auto-update installs for my Win XP Pro.

Please see my other post for more details.

Thanks.

Steve
