It may sound really stupid but since buying this comp in Oct on the bottomright of the main screen there are two Screen icons with a red cross thru- when I put the mouse over them it reads - local area connection a network cable is unplugge
Everythings seems to be working ok and I'm sure I put it all together properly but I can't help wondering if this would speed up connections etc. - p[lease help!

Are you on any sort of network
how do you get online is it through dial up or cable modem through a network card
Goto control Panel and swich to classic view
double click on network connection
If there are any connections there right click on one and click on properties
there should be a box at the bottom of the window that pops up that says show icon in notification area when connected
If it has a tick click on it and press ok.

Hi paul,

If u r not usign any network card, then try the steps:

1. Click Start, Control Panel, Appearance and Themes, Taskbar and Start
Menu.

2. Make sure Hide inactive icons is checked and then click Customize.

3. Find Local Area Network connection in the list of taskbar icons and click
on it.

4. Click the drop down box next to the Local Area Connection and choose
Always Hide.

5. Click OK, Apply, OK.

This will do.
