Local device name already in use Error

I had a Win 2003 Server based network in an office and moved the server with
three workstations to a new location. The original office is now used as a
satellite office with one of the original workstations (XP Pro) sited there.

We installed ADSL access at both sites with routers at each end and VPN
access at the new site. We ensured that the network IPs are in different
groups and all was well for a few weeks.

I am now getting an error when attempting to open a mapped drive from the
single computer. This states "Local device name is already in use".

I have checked the article on this error in the Knowledgebase and have
followed the advice, but every time I attempt to remap I get the same error,
or that the remote server cannot be found. I have to type in the remote
server's local IP address in order to see it in Windows Explorer, and trying
to search for it I get Computer cannot be found.

How can I remove the mapping and then login successfully and create a
mapping to folders on the server?

What really puzzles me is that it did work for a few weeks before falling
over.
I have changed the internal IP addresses on the single computer and its
router and reset the router to try to get rid of any cached information but
to no avail.
