Local Area Connection problem

Symptoms: Computer start-up. Desktop and taskbar come up okay with desktop
icons up okay also.
However, an icon on the notifier bar takes more than two minutes to come up.
This is the 'local area connection' icon.
When I put the mouse over it, I get this message
"Local Area Connection
A network cable is unplugged"
The problem is that in the time it takes for this icon to appear, I cannot
run any programs.
I think this connection icon comes up because I previously have used the
local connection for video editing, and the computer is spending a long time
looking for the cable.
I could leave my camera connected all the time and this would solve the
problem but I'd rather not.
Does anyone know how I might disable the computer from searching for a cable
to the local area connection.

thanks in advance

Note if you use a cable or dsl modem
Don’t do this.

Right click my computer tab hardware
Click device manager.
View Show hidden devices
Under Network Adapters
Look for Ethernet adapters
Some time thier will be two of the same.
Do it for each one.
Double click on that
Choose don’t use this device

Don't do it for any other adapters or you will screw up
your dial up connection.

My advice is as-is. It could trash your system.

Hi TR, you can just right click the LAN icon in the taskbar and select
disable and it will be gone. To enable it go to Network Connections.
