I am trying to set up a wireless network, between my
desktop and my notebook. Both run Windows XP, and both
have wireless network cards in them. The wireless cards
are both working as they both have 'excellent' signals,
but somehow I have not been able to make them 'talk' to
one another. I have run the network wizards on both
computers, and feel like have set it all up correctly,
however I have obviously missed something. My Local Area
Connection on both machines keeps coming up with the
message that the cable is unplugged? Please help.

You did say this is a WIRELESS network you are trying to set up didn't you?
Besides the wireless adapters, do you also have a wireless access
point/router?
What adapter is shown for each Local Area Connection?
Make sure that you are looking at a LAC that is using the correct wireless
adapter.

Both of your computers have a wireless NIC known to XP as a Wireless
Network Connection. Both also have an ethernet connection (wired) which
is known as a Local Area Connection. If the latter is not being used
you need to disable each Local Area Connection and the warning will go
away. Having done that, your wireless might automagically start
working. Nevertheless, from a command prompt type: ipconfig /all and
report back what one of them says at least, if the wireless does not
work.
