How would you completly empty out a computer and put XP on it when you
already have a bad copy of XP currently on it?

To do this you'll have to put a genuine full version xp cd in the drive and
run it from start up. It will ask to hit any key to boot from the cd, run
through the process to setup windows. Then once you get to this point you'll
want to delete the partition containing the bad copy of windows, then
recreate one and install. Note that this process may take a while depending
on the size of your hard drive since it will have to completely format the
hard drive for windows after deleting the partition.

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS
installation, simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll
be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Then the backed up data can be restored and applications re-installed.
