Could someone please let me know if this is true or not
and what are my options. I had purchased Windows xp home
edition version 2002 a while ago and loaded it onto my
laptop that previously had windows 98 on it. I had sold
the laptop about 9 months ago and I would like to load the
software onto my home P.C. Someone had told me that I had
to remove the software from my laptop to get a key or
something to be able to load the software onto any future
computer. Is this True because I can not find the new
owner of my old laptop, What are my options?
Thank You In Advance

Brian;
According to the EULA you agreed to, you can only install Windows XP
on a single computer at a time.
If you were keeping Windows XP, it is your responsibility to remove it
from the computer you sell.

As long as Windows XP is retail and not OEM, you could attempt to
install.
If you kept the CD, original Product Key and Certificate of
Authenticity, you still own it.
If any of the components are missing, you may own nothing.
If prompted, call Microsoft at the provided number, explain and they
will most likely activate.

If Windows XP is OEM, it is normally permanently tied to the first
computer installed and can never be transferred regardless the
condition of the computer.
