I know about the license agreement and restrictions but
am unclear about this:
I built a comp and loaded xp home. The mother board fried
after 18 months or so (new retail is way misrepresented
by some online cheapo computer parts stores) After that
comp went down I loaded xp on an old 400. when I got the
money to but a new mother board and processor i rebuilt
the original and swapped it out with the P2 400 system. I
got most of it loaded but the laser lens was spotted and
so I had some flaws in the installation that required me
to write 0's to the HDD and load again. Now it won't load
at all. 2000 Pro loaded fine. Isd there something in XP
that screws up the CD after the key code has been entered
3 or 4 times?
Thanks
Rick

Rick,

Check the WinXP CD and make sure it is clean. If need be, you can wash it
safely with dishwashing detergent and pat it dry with a towel.

If CD drive is still suspect, use a CD drive cleaner (available at Radio
Shack, audio dept of any department store or any computer store) first.
Worse case, swap out or replace the suspect CD drive.

Make sure you install the latest BIOS and drivers for the mobo. Have WinXP
compliant drivers available for all your other hardware as well. Remove
everything (all the PCI cards) except your video card and modem if need be
and run the install "bare", then install the cards after the system is up
and running.

There should be no other reason that it won't load based on what you told
us.
