Loading Windows XP

Hi , I am having problems loading XP onto a replacement 6gb notebok disk on a Sony pcg-f305.

I get the blue screen of death with the problem showing in partmngr.sys

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

any help on this problem would be appreciated

PartMgr.sys is the partition manager for Windows.


I would run CHKDSK to check the HD.

err, did you say a 6Gb disk as in hard drive ?

yes it is a laptop 6gb internal hdd. I have changed like for like. Mind you I did try a 40Gb but it could not be seen by the laptop! I will try chkdsk.

6GB is a good start if you're trying to install XP.

Well it had xp home installed when my daughter got it. Tried installing 98 but no joy either!

No disrespect intended, but it is a rather old system and I would not be surprised to have problems installing any OS including Linux.
