loading windows takes way too long

windows xp home takes 3 to 5 min to load, before was
normal ( 1 min). have not changed anything, except a
couple of required updates.

I am having the same prob. but mine started after I ran

a fix with the install disk. For some reason all my
help/search etc. files were gone.
