Hi, I am looking for some help. I have just completed a full system
recovery on a Compaq S5200nx. Windows XP home and all of the drivers
loaded without any problems. All updates are done and all is well.
Everytime I restart the pc, the Compaq screen appears with two
options, F-1 for set-up, and F-10 for system recovery, this is normal.
After this screen appears, another appears asking: what would you like
to do, start windows xp home edition or start windows recovery
console?, and am given a 20 sec. countdown. It appears on every start
up. How do I disable this message screen?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi "jinxy",

Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click Advanced (tab).
Under Startup and Recover, click Settings (button).
Under System startup, look for this:

[*] Time to display list of operating systems: [20] seconds

If you right click on that text, and click What's This:
"Specifies how much time will elapse at startup before the default
operating system starts automatically. Type the number of seconds in
the list, or click the arrows to select the time."

* If you want the Recovery Console option to be available,
change 20 to 3 seconds, to shorten the time the boot menu is displayed.

* If you do NOT want to see the boot menu, UN-check that item.

Click OK to save changes.

With a boot menu, it is easier to press F8 at the right time for Safe Mode.

HTH. (Hope This Helps. :)
