When loading a presentation from CD there is a 15 sec lag
before anything happens. Is there a way of giving the
viewer a "preloader" or dialog to let them know something
is happening?

How is the presentation opened? Is this an autorun CD using the PowerPoint
Viewer? Or is the user just clicking on the presentation to open it? What
version of PowerPoint are you using?

CD access times are always slower than hard disk access times - try to make
a provision in your presentation that can allow a lag of a few seconds.

To fake a preloader, just type the text 'Loading...' and animate it
continuously - try placing some elements after a while over the 'Loading...'
text if you are using PowerPoint 97 or 2000. If you are using PowerPoint
2002 or 2003, you can provide the text with an exit animation.

I'm using PP2000 I pack and go the presentation with PP
viewer then unpack to a folder on the root drive. Then add
an Autorun inf file, text is

[Autorun]
open=ppview32.exe (whateverThe pres Name Is).ppt
The pres may take 15 secs to load then 15 more to run the
pres. Unfortunately some people in their impatience may
try to move it along and their system ends up hanging. Do
I include the shorter "preload"pres as a 2nd item in the
playlist file for the PP viewer? >-----Original Message----

Use NotePad to create a text file and save it as playlist.lst (that's "l" as in
list). The file should contain just two lines:

pres1.ppt
pres2.ppt

The first can be a one slide presentation that just says "Loading - - please
wait".

The autorun.inf file should then be:

[autorun]
open=ppview32.exe playlist.lst
