[PP2003] I packaged to CD a presentation in which there are 4 seperate files
linked together. When the CD autoruns it takes about 20 seconds to load. This
is after I've followed the advice from previous posts and slimmed down the
presentation. I would like to have a dialog box, or anything that lets the
user know the file is loading. If possible, also that same dialog box when
the user selects an hyperlink to another PP file within the CD.
Thanks!

Jim

Try creating a fifth presentation that consists of just one slide. You can
fancy it up with a title, etc., plus links to the other four presentations.
Then save it and package the whole bundle to CD. That should help to speed up
the time to load the first slide.

Sonia,
Thank you for your reply. Creating a fifth slide would speed up the initial
load time however when the user selects a link to the other files then its
another 15-20 seconds wait time. You and I would realize the presentation is
loading but some of the people using my CD, have in the past, clicked a link
two or three times thinking it wasn't working. Doing that creates a problem
for them, then for me.
Anything like an hourglass pointer or dialog box would do the trick.

thanks,
jim

You could put a small comment under the link button saying something like, "May
take a few seconds depending on your system".

If there are no other options then I guess I will have to do that.

usterra,

Getting more complicated.....but may just work....

Create the hyperlink to a simple single slide for each linked presentation

This single simple slide could have your message displayed....

"please wait...loading..." or something.

Then have an automatic link that loads up the next presentation while this message is displayed.

Main Pres with links
Link 1 clicked > loads pres 1 message > this single slide hands over to the real pres 1 > Pres1
Link 2 clicked > loads pres 2 message > this single slide hands over to the real pres 2 > Pres2

The tutorial about linking is set so that the "links icons" are set to "auto" load the presentation

Thats a great idea!
I set it up according to your instructions but I couldn't get the object to
automatically show. This is what I have done.
I created a new presentation (load1) and wrote loading on it. I inserted an
object linked to (presentation1) and Show Icon checked. Selecting the icon, I
chose custom animation. Under custom animation I chose the following: 'ADD
EFFECT' is set to Appear. 'OBJECT ACTIONS' is set to Show. Under 'TIMING' I
have 'START': After Previous. 'DELAY': 0 seconds.
When my Main Menu.pps launches and the user selects the hyperlink
'PRESENTATION1' it links to file 'load1' which then should automatically open
'presentation1' when loaded. But it doesn't open the file 'presentation1'

I hope that makes sense, I explained what I did and why I did it to make
sure I am understanding what we are trying to achieve.

Thanks

Jim
