I have FP2003. Every time I try to add an image gallery, I am told to "Open
a FrontPage website and save it to that". The thing is, I'm in FP building
the page and can't save it to an actual website. I have to save it as an
html to my drive where I keep all my web pages and then I upload from there.
How can one save directly to a live webpage without having saved it to a file
first?

If you're creating loose pages like that you're not taking full advantage of
how FP works.
Create a website on your local machine (hd) then publish it to your web
server.

You must first create a web site and work in that, not just individual loose
pages.

All, thanks for your answers but I must not be explaining myself clearly.

I already have a school website up and running. I use FP2003 to create the
pages and upload them to the website. Everything works easily and
beautifully. Except...

When I create an image gallery in FP2003, no matter where I try to load it
to, or file I try to save it in (and believe me, I've tried about every
possibility I still get the same error message that I must open a FP webpage
and save to that. Which I have open. Which I have tried to save to. Upload
to, etc. And it still won't let me!

Thank you all for your responses, however I think I'm not being clear.

1) I have a website already up and running.
2) I use FP2003
3) Everything is easily and loads beautifully - except for Image Gallery.
4) Once I've loaded all my pics and edited them, when I go to upload it, I
continually get the same error message that I must open a FP website and save
to that - which is what I've tried to endlessly do.
5) I've also tried the slideshow and get the same message.

I save all of my pages (6 of them that are school webpages from a template)
on my Y drive. They are live pages. When I need to add updates, etc., I
just open them directly in FP, add info and upload. Easy. This is also where
I'm trying to add an image gallery to as well. But for some reason, it won't
allow it.... Argh.

Not talking about the remote live website. Do you have a web site created
LOCALLY on your computer, or just single pages? That's the question.

Based on ythis and your other posts, I would say
you are editing loose pages, and Nnot pages
within a website.
Open FrontPage, and on the menu
File->New
On the task pane, choose More web Site tmplates
Choose empty web site and choose a folder to
place it in the right column. The default is a
folder in My Documents, so change to a folder on
Y Drive if required.
Click OK
File->Import your existing loose pages.
Within this website you can create your gallery
and save it.
Then correct the links on the pages and Publish
to your internet website.
Always open a website before editing pages -
never open a page BEFORE opening a site.

I've built all the components of my website on FrontPage 2003 on my local
computer, but my computer is not running any web services itself.

Your computer does not need to run any web
services, but you DO need to have a web site on
your computer - FrontPage will build a disc-based
website - see my other post in this thread.

You have still not answered the question: Have you actually created a web
site? Have you read the helpfiles to find out how?

It sounds like you are doing this, but just in case, try this. Open your
website locally on your home computer FIRST. Then, and only then, create the
page that will have your photo-gallery within your open website. Finish the
photo-gallery and save the page containing the photo-gallery. Publish your
entire local website to the server.

You are not really listening.

You MUST create a web on your machine, a web is not just merely a scattering
of loose pages or even pages in a regular folder...a web is a special folder
(with a blue globe on it) along with some special subfolders/files that FP
creates when you create a WEB/SITE also in this folder are your pages...if
you don't create the website first then you just have loose pages.
