Loading New Software

I have got a new PC on which I seem to have problems loading some programs.

Every time I try to load some of the programs I get messages that state the
installer can not find the 'Shell.Dll' and thereafter, there was an 'Error
Loading the MM Engine'.

Any help would be appreciated. Do note, no tech language, I am a laymen!!

I use XPPRO SP1.

Try to solve this via the System File Checker. At Start > Run type
SFC /scannow
and press OK.
