I just upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional.
Upon completion my display shrunk in the screen.
The resolution is 640/480 pixels nd I only get 16 colors.
These are the only choices available. I can not change
the pixels and I can not change the colors.
How do I get my old display options back. Do I need to re-
load a driver or something?

You probably need to be sure you are logging in as local
administrator and be sure your video card is supported in
the hardware configuration. You did not say what OS you
had upgraded from, but it sounds like your system is using
default or generic settings because it did not recognize
the video card. Do you remember the card that the prior
OS used? You could try the 'add new hardware' wizard to
see if it could determine what card to use. Also check in
the device manager settings. Many high-end (and not so
high-end or built-in) cards need special drivers. Without
them, the screen reverts to a generic setting so you can
at least get something. Right click on My Computer, click
on Manage then Device Manager to see what the OS thinks
you have in the way of Display Adaptors and Monitors. You
should bone up on what PC configuration you are running,
since this sounds like a hardware question.

I'm not one of the high-end MVPs, but I have run into this
before. The Hardware newsgroup might be a better place
for an answer.

Hello Michael,

You stated that you upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional and you only have
the option of 640/480 with 16 Colors. This is happening because you do not
have a driver for the video card installed. You will need to determine
what kind of video card that you have and contact the manufacturer of the
video card to obtain the latest driver. Typically you will be able to
download the driver from the manufacturers website.
