LMHOSTS not loading

Help


I have tried everything but I cannot get my LMHOSTS file
to load. I have a single entry in the file in the form:-
123.456.789.123 mailserver #PRE

With a single CR/LF at the end (edited in Notepad)

The file definatly does not have an extension and it is in
the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC directory


When I ping the IP address all is OK but if I Ping
the "friendly name" I get an error message saying "unknown
host.


Any ideas
 
Tried this and added the relevant key to the registry to
force to B-Node - Still no effect.
 
Yes I did this and got the computer name of the host I am
trying to get to - but this doesn't seem to help
 
At least i am not the only one. No need to restate all of my symptom
are the same.

Idea: Is there any way to get outlook to use and ip address instead o
the host name to access the remote exchange server. that would solve th
problem

No - it expects a name. More detail is needed, as I said in my other reply.
