WinXP SP3
4GB mem
Explorer 7
Lifecam Vx 3000

After a major crash( sometimes blue screen) or a freeze and when I have to
do a manual reboot recycling the power, the web cam is uninstalled.

After the reboot, the "found new hardware utility" starts and it identifies
the WEBCAM as new hardware. At that point, I have to erase the previous
instalation of the webcam because I don't know where WINXp keeps it's
drivers, and reinstall completely the camera. The automated sequence to find
the drivers is unsuccessful.
Basically the webcam vanishes after the crash.
I don't even know where Win saves the drivers .

I'd appreciate input.

You should not have to "uninstall" anything. XP may create a bad
enumeration of the USB devices and this should be re-built at next
boot.

Check and update hte Lifecam drivers, since they should still work
with the next USB entry that the Lifecam enumerate to.
