Hey folks,
Quick question:
I have the A7N8X Deluxe rev. 2.0
Currently using the on-board Soundstorm, along with the Logitech Z-560, I
curious if I would get better sound/performace if I plugged in and used my
Live! Value 5.1 instead.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Michael

The Live has awful sound quality. nForce is OK. Performance is a wash.
Use the Live to prop up a coffee table or something, that's all it was
ever good for.

Hi, nothing wrong with the sound quality of a Live! at all, still using one.
Sound is much more of a personal subjective taste so you are better off
trying it first. Both the Sound Storm and the Live! are renowned to give of
crackling and popping issues with certain setups. However the Live! card
could never be described as 'awful' certainly not in my experiences....

If you're using the Logitech Z-560s you have hardware decoding of DTS,
right? So you should be using the hardware encoding on the SoundStorm. The
Live! won't be able to touch the performance and features of the SoundStorm
with digital output.

The question is whether the DACs are better on the Live! or the Logitechs.
I would say that you probably couldn't tell the difference.

Use the SoundStorm, but make sure you're using the Digital Out of the
SoundStorm as the DACs in the Realtek ALC650 are of questionable quality.

Thats a bit harsh, I thought mine was ok. I used to get a lot of background
noise, but I think that was primarily probably due to the CDROM audio cable,
which I wouldn;t dream of using these days (DAE is sooo much better).

Wrong! My bad... searched for 560 on Logitechs site and without looking
properly at the returned page, read the specs for the 680, sorry.

Still... stick with the nForce, it's great.

Thanks for the replies, folks.
I'm gonna stay with the nForce audio...at least until an Audigy 2 is within
my grasp.

Thanks again.

Best thing about Soundstorm is not having to use Creative's drivers with
all the grief they tend to bring with them.

I have an Audigy 1 card that I applied the Audigy 2 drivers to. It sounds
great on my A7N8X non deluxe board. I bought the card on Ebay for $25
dollars and then downloaded the cracked drivers from a site in the UK. It
was a pain to do but works great on my Altec Lansing 251 speakers. I paid
$75.00 for the speakers - so for @ $100 I am extremely pleased with the
solution. Much better then my older Live 5.1 card I had.
