live streaming crashes in all clients

I have a home network on a wired router. My laptop running Win ME does not
have this problem so I don't think it is the router.
The problem is with my desktop running Win XP with service pack 2 installed.
Every time I try to run a link for live streaming video at a website, IE
crashes. I also tried this with the latest versions of Netscape, Firefox and
even Real Audio.
I have tried turning off and on all firewalls but it makes no difference.
Any ideas?
