Any views please on using Windows Live OneCare? I came
across the 'facility' while looking at the MS Defender NG General and with
all the very level headed expertise in the NGs etc, thought there might be
some thoughts ?

I do not like jumping too soon!

You can try Windows Live OneCare "Free PC Safety Scan" and make up your own
mind. Yes, it is really free. :-)

Given the track record for security that Microsoft has for it's operating
systems, would you really be foolish enough to trust the complete security
of your system to them?

Live OneCare is a joke at best.

My sentiments too, allow R & D to be done by the big commercials first
before putting toe in water.

Given that they designed and implemented the OS in the first place, who
better
knows the vulnerabilities and weaknesses?

I've been using WLOC since the "beta" days with no problems to speak
of.
It works just as intended...

It's designed for "beginner users" as it consolidates a lot of computer
care into a single package. I imagine a lot of folks will like it and use
it. Personally, I find it too slow for my liking and am disappointed in the
lack of configuration options (in the backup portion, for example). Also,
in terms of security, I'm not comfortable with the "all eggs in one basket"
approach.

On the other hand, I very much like Windows Defender which is offered as
part of the One Care package and as a stand alone application . The
"software explorer" is one of several good features in this product.

Then I guess you don't pay much attention to the huge amount of negative
press it has received...and again I say anyone would be foolish to trust
Microsoft with the security of their computer.
