little man pulling objects

Hi all, for awhile I've been wondering if there was a way to, during a
powerpoint presentation, have a cartoon (e.g. a little construction worker)
pull a text box, a picture, etc. onto the screen with animation. e.g. man
pulls a text box across, unhitches it, then walks off the other side of the
screen.

Does anyone have links or suggestions for such a thing?

What about a series of pictures which are hidden by freeform shapes with the
same background as your slide and formatted without lines. The shapes will
disappear when you want the next bit of the animation to take place and you
would set used pictures to 'disappear' after they have done their stint by
another cover appearing over them.

Hi Dave,

important question: which version of PowerPoint are you using? It should be
possible in PPT 2002 and 2003. You can combine animated GIFs, motion paths,
etc. to get the effect. Do you remember that old computer game where a
little worker had to push crates into the corners of odd shaped rooms? Would
look a bit like that.

Evi's solution might be feasible in PPT 97 without all those nice new
animation features, but means a lot of work to look smooth.

Kind regards,
Ute

Guess who's got PP97, Ute:)

Thanks Evi and Ute.

I don't think I've seen that computer game you mentioned. I think we have
the same thing in mind though, a little worker with overalls, pushing and
pulling things. usually with a little hat and a moustache. he could also
drag the "the end" sign out at the end.

Well one thing I didn't know about is motion trails. I could probably online
find an animated gif of a worker walking, then try this motion trail thing
with that, and have the sign/picture/etc. come along with it. I have
powerpoint 2000, is this possible with that?

Motion Paths are a new animation feature found in PPT 2002 ("XP") and 2003.

Hi Dave,

"Sokoban" is the game I mentioned - am I THAT old that other folks here
don't remember it? ;-)

Motion paths were introduced into PowerPoint in version 2002/xp, so you will
not find them in your version. You might try moving the animated GIF with
something like "Fly in" - you'll get a very straightforward construction
worker then ;-) But it will be difficult, having the text box coming in at
the same time, try to group it with the GIF.

Most of those neat little animation tricks can be done only in the newer
versions 2002 (and 2003), Microsoft added a lot of animation stuff in there!

Kind regard,
Ute

Ahh Mario, although a plumber by trade, I can imagine him moonlighting as a
set-designer, so to speak.

Maybe I'll try to upgrade to a newer version to make this easier.

Thanks for the help people!
