God this is annoying the hell out of me! I've tried googling, I've tried
driver-guide and I tried just about every place I can think of but for the
life of me, I just cannot seem to install this CDRom in WinXp SP2! Every
time the computer reboots it finds this new hardware and cannot find the
drivers anywhere! Internet or on my computer. It just can't find them!
I've gone to Lite-On Site but with no luck! I would just toss this piece of
**** out the window and just get a new one but the fact that it finds it
tells me that it does works. My DVD-ROM has no problem.

P.S. If you suggest the CMOS, forget it! I won't even go into how lame
their CMOS settings is!

Computer: Compaq 7462 desktop
O.S WinXP w/SPII
AMD processor
and with about 256 mb of ram

You should not need drivers for it.

Set the IDE jumpers properly, attach it to an IDE channel and it should be
detected.

Thanks for you fast reply in regards to my dilemma Gary. Everything "is"
detected by WinXp but my problem is that it cannot find the drivers for it
so it can install the CDRom! Everything is connected correctly otherwise,
it wouldn't find the new hardware on system startup. Unfortunately, Compaq
doesn't have many CMOS settings to change. If all else fails, I will just
buy a newer one. No sense in going through all this headache for this
stupid CDRom! Again Gary, Thanks!

It uses the IDE drivers that are already on your system. How do you mean the
computer can't find it. Be more specific in what you are doing. If you are
placing a blank CD in the drive and trying to browse the drive you will not
get anything but an error message.

Sorry, got carried away. It uses the default drivers already on your system
(but not the IDE drivers).

Thanks Richard for replying. Ok my problem is... I've got a DVDRom and a
CDRom I have not had any problems with the DVDRom. As a matter of fact, I
used it to install Win XP. My problem is that each and everytime I start
the computer I get a "found new hardware prompt" then it ask If I would
like to connect to the internet. Well, it doesn't matter if I connect or
not because it just cannot find drivers for this CDRom. After going through
this scenerio it tells me my new hardware may not function correctly. Now
I have a problem device on my device manager till I hit "scan for new
hardware" which again finds the CDRom and starts the whole process of
looking for drivers again!

The default drivers are the standard IDE drivers that Microsoft is
providing. If you are looking for the enhanced Ultra DMA IDE drivers, you
wiil need to know which motherbaord chipset your motherbaord uses. You
should be able to find this in you motherboard's manual or on the
manufacturer's web site.
