I've just bought the above drive to replace my knackered 8x sony writer. I
was using roxio easy cd&dvd 6 to write cds with that with no problems yet
after recently upgrading the drive I have been havin' problems writing and
the process stops halfway through, crashing easy cd. I think this is a
result of not being able to read off the hard drive at sufficient speed.
Is there a "determine max speed" option in ECD6, like that is nero express,
which will enable me to only write at the maximum possible read speed? I
have looked everywhere and would like to be able to use ECD6 for writing
some cds, especially music ones as you have more control over the track
timings etc.

Many thanks

Perhaps you're writing at a speed your media doesn't support. Check the
packaging for details. Did you jumper the drive as Master and place it on
the end of the IDE ribbon ?

Thanks for the reply. I know the media is 52x speed and I have successfully
been able to write at this speed with Nero Express on many attempts,
although creating music cds from mp3s it is unable to read at sufficient
speed to enable 52x recording. As for setting the drive as master and on the
end of the IDE cable, it is set as master, and I think it is on the end of
the cable (does that actually make a difference? first time i've heard it
mentioned). The thing is though, it works fine with Nero Express if I check
the "Determine Max. Speed" option box, although since ECD6 doesn't appear to
have this option and, only when writing data Nero cannot read at >52x I can
only assume this must be the problem. Anyone else encountered a similar
situation, writing at 52x with ECD?

Many thanks

I don't use the Roxio product, so I can't comment on it. If the media is
certified for 52X speeds, perhaps knocking down the write speed to 48x or so
will result in successful burns. Not every burner can burn every type of
media at maximum speed with proper results. Consider trying Nero6 with the
slightly slower speed and see what happens.

i believe the liteon drives have some problems with certain burning programs
other than the nero it
should of been packaged with....

Try upgrading the drive to the newest available firmware. Checkout the
liteon website for the firmware. Also the CD's that you are using
might say they are compatible with the speed you are trying to burn
at, but the burner does not like the CD's you are using. So try to use
a different brand of CD to see if that sorts your problem out

Thanks, i'm pretty sure the firmware cannot be at fault, nor the burner not
liking the media i'm using. As i mentioned, the drive will write perfectly
with nero express, just not with easy cd 6 - i can only assume i am unable
to read at sufficient speed to write to the disc, since easy cd 6 crashes
halfway through the writing process.

Some writing software is not compatiable with another product at the same
time. Try removing all but one writing software...
