I am copying a large number of tracks from CD's to audio
cassettes. Given that I know the duration of each track,
WHAT IS THE EXCEL FORMULA TO LIST THOSE TRACKS that will
come clostest to, but not exceed, the length of the
playing tape.

For example, say I have:

Track # Duration
1 16:48
2 21:36
3 33:36
etc
etc

I want Excel to produce a LIST of the track numbers that
total closest to a tape duration of say 45 minutes.

My further, but related query, is HOW TO SUM the duration
column in a table such as above, when the figures are
mm:ss (minutes and seconds).

Many thanks.

Format the cells as Custom>mm:ss. Then you may add them. If you do not want
the minutes to roll over to hours, format as [mm]:ss.

Thanks for your response Jim. I'll give it a shot.

Are you also able to help with the first part of my
question?

Have a nice day on the Gulf Coast.

Send me (not the ng) a sample of the data and I will see if I can find a way
to help with your first question. Remove the obvious garbage from my
address.
