What is the minimum set of software that you would recommend to protect a
Win2K server from any viruses or malicious software, spyware etc? The
server does not run Exchange Server but it does act as a file server and web
server. The server is connected to the web via a linksys NAT router.

Is it enough to have Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition? What else should
be installed? Is the right set of software sufficient or do you really need
some kind of hardware device to protect in addition to a NAT router?

Thanks so much.

My personal take:

[1] Anti-virus. SAVCE is good - make sure it's updated on a regular basis.

[2] Spyware detection like Ad-Aware or Spybot Search & Destroy.

[3] Software-based firewall software like ZoneLabs (pony up for the "Pro"
version, it's worth it) or Symantec Internet Security.

None needed. Unplug the system, put it in a locked closet. :)

All of these are valid. But security is a process, not an event.
Keeping up to date on security issues is the piece you're not even
touching on. Otherwise, start here:

Our servers run quite fine on the public Internet with nothing more than the
Cisco Security Agent.
