Here is my configuration:
- A home computer running Windows XP Home Edition
- A work laptop running Windows XP Pro
- A Compaq Ipaq Connection Point CP-2W switch/router
- The switch/router is connected to my cable modem
- The two computers are connected to the switch/router
Here is the troubleshooting that I've done:
- Both computers are setup to use DHCP for IP address/DNS
- Both computers are getting IP from router, and are
using cable provider's DNS servers
- Both computers are able to use the internet
- I can ping the two computers from each other
- I have disabled the Internet Connection Firewall on
both computers
- I have gone into the advanced TCP/IP settings on both
computer and have forced NetBIOS on (by selecting "Enable
NetBIOS over TCP/IP")
- TCP/IP filtering is not enabled on either computer
- Neither computer has "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication
for this network" checked.
- Both computers are setup with the same user ID and
password. The user ID in question has system admin
rights.
Here is my problem:
When trying to browse for network services, I get the
following error when I select the workgroup that the two
computers are in:
"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is
not currently available."
Then, I get nothing. Zilch. Can't even see my own
shares.
Anybody care to suggest what might be wrong or how this
can be fixed?
