Lion, Epson and Silverfast

I rely heavily on my Epson V750 which is connected to a Mac Mini
running Silverfast under Apples "old" operating system. Now that a new
Mac Mini is available, with the new Lion operating system, I'd like to
upgrade to a shiny new box and OS. Unfortunately this upgrade path
might not be as simple as I had hoped.

I understand the current version of Silverfast will not work under
Lion, that there will be a new version (Silverfast 8) but this will be
charged for when released next month. The alternatives would be using
Epson's scanning package or maybe Vuescan.

Does anyone know what the likely cost of Silverfast 8 would be?

Does anyone have experience of scanning with an Epson scanner on Lion?
Either using Epson's software or Vuescan?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi Rob,

Many thanks for that. I have read the press release and clicked on the
"Buy" link. The text doesn't mention money and the buy page, when I
put in my country and system etc, only give prices for current
software. On the right of that page it clearly says that software will
not work on Lion.

Incidentally there's a post on the Silverfast forum saying that writer
had been told by Silverfast that version 8 for Lion would cost $200.
Eye watering.

I don't have a Mac BTW. have a V700 off a PC W7 using SilverFast Ai
Studio. I have a registered version so I was sent the newsletter.

Re reading it tells a different story:

"SilverFast will be available completely renewed towards the end of
August for the most important scanners of all major manufacturers."

Mac OS X systems from version 10.5 (including 10.7 Lion). 32bit
computers will be supported as well as 64bit systems.

Yep I tried as well to find update pricing on their site.

I prefer the Epson software, which should be free upgrade off their site
and don't go much for Vuescan. Or you could even use the Epson software
till the new Silverfast is released.
