I recently purchased a LinXcel KVM switch (PS-141B) on eBay and while trying
to use it two things come to mind:
1. "Let the buyer beware"
2. "You get what you pay for"
At issue is the switch's inability to hold recognition of the keyboard and
mouse through the Windows2000 boot process. I have three different
keyboards and three different mice. No combination maintains
communication. The break happens between 2/3 and 3/4 of the way through the
"Starting Up ..." process on the white welcome screen.
This only happens on my Win2000 machine. Doesn't happen on WINNT4 or
WIN98SE machines, only after the Win2000 machine has reached the above
position in the start up sequence. Then the KVM either locks up or wigs.
Not alot about LinXcel out there and nothing on the manufacturer, Phoebe.
The only two references to LinXcel I've found are disturbing. One
individual is having the same problem I'm having and he's looking for
answers too. The other is slightly more encouraging (emphasis on slightly).
In the second, this individual is having erratic performance. Some times it
works, other times it just locks up. He's fed up and going to send his
KVM's back to the distributor he purchased them from.
I'd feel a little better about this if I could talk to the Phoebe techies,
but they are no where I've been able to find. If someone could point me in
the right direction here, it would be greatly appreciated. Is there a
solution that doesn't involve a trash can?
I'd recommend staying away from this piece of hardware until Phoebe can host
a support site and iron out the bugs.
