Hmm sad isn't it, that the only linux supporter here,
starts off the post with a very unhelpful line pasted a
dozen times. Makes us linux supporters look like nutbags.

Well if it helps I'll just add this some of the top MS
vulnerabilites target IE yes check out secunia if you want,
linux is fortunate enough to not to have a browser
funelling vulnerabilities straight to the OS. So for
windows you need MS Antispyware :) Enough said, I'm
returning to less MS centric and more IT generic forums.

No I'm not a linux nut, both OS have their uses.
 
I've just made a post in another group here which relates to the point you
are making--the integration of IE into the OS means that you must be
vigilant and patch IE vulnerabilities even if you don't ever use it as a
browser.

That sounds bad, but I don't really see it as that much of an issue--we need
to patch vulnerabilities in the OS. This puts some code in that category
which isn't in that category in Linux, but it doesn't really make the job of
doing that patching significantly more difficult.

Frankly, looking back at the landscape of TCP/IP and web browsing from a
pre-Windows 95 perspective to now, I wouldn't go back. I'm very pleased
that Microsoft chose to incorporate the TCP/IP stack and the browser into
the product. At the time, Internet suite products cost more than Windows 95
did, as I recall, although there were good shareware alternatives. That
decision is one of the driving forces behind the present ubiquity of
Internet access and the Web. Certainly not the only one--it could have
developed differently, but I for one am glad Microsoft did it.
