I heard that ATI has drivers for Linux kernel version 2.6 now, but
I can't find them on the web site. Does anyone know where I can get
them? I'm asking about the ATI proprietary drivers not the open source
ones. I have hopes to upgrade to the 9800 Pro and use the acceleration
on OpenGL apps.

I got a Sapphire Radeon Atlantis 9800 256M and it appears
to be seriously sick so I am getting a different one. I tried it on three
different motherboards. On my ASUS A7M266-D the computer boots but will
only run a few minutes before shutting itself down. In a older PC I have (not
sure if it supports AGP 4x) the monitor displays weird blinking colors
and characters and the machine does not boot.

No, ATI's Linux support is seriously lacking, they're pretty out of
touch with the majority of the Linux user base IMHO. The distro I use,
Gentoo, applies patches to the drivers before compiling if the kernel is
a 2.6 series one. There may be an easier solution for you, depending on
your distro.

Now may be a good time to point out the "ATI Petition for Adequate
Drivers in Linux" at http://www.petitiononline.com/atipet/, if anyone
cares...
