Linux freeware

R

Romain Petges

Hi all,

I recently tried the latest Fedora Core with Gnome 2.6 and I'm really
excited about Linux :)

Because I'm considering myself still as a Linux newbie I hope that some
persons in a.c.f. can point me to free software sites for Linux (the
software section on the Gnome site is really outdated)

Other Linux links are also welcome (Online magazines etc.).

Many thanks in advance !

Best regards, Romain

Here is the most complete Linux web page I have ever seen.

Here is an interesting software comparison site-

I actually find it hard to find non-freeware for Linux. ;)

http://www.sourceforge.net is great and has some projects that Freshmeat
doesn't have and visa-versa.

Two more I haven't used as much:
http://developer.berlios.de/
http://fileforum.betanews.com/

If you find any good software for Linux please feel free to mention it
on my website. I've had to use Windows a lot recently so I haven't had
time to write reviews for Linux freeware or find new software.

I know ... plus they're generally open source :-D

Maybe I had better to ask about Linux software sites in general ;-)

Trey is your site devoted to only freeware? I'm curious as Winzip is
included in the Windows section and AFAIU it's 'try before you buy' s/w.

Cheers, Mike.

I have not weeded out the trialware articles yet. The reason I let
WiZip in for now is because there is no time limit on the software and
they don't constantly ask you to buy their software. I think I may add
a section in the forum for reviews like this so that the
trialware-people can be happy while keeping far away from the main site.

My site will be completely devoted to freeware once I work the kinks out.

By the way, you might want to try my rating system (there is a place to
rate each program on the each review's page). I just made this recently
and I have found some bugs. I think its working fine now though.

FYI, I just made a nagware section and starred the programs that are
liteware. M, thanks for the advice. :)

Great - thanks for clarifying. Good to see dbpoweramp in there and
considering previous discussions here hopefully it will get it's well
deserved place on the pricelessware list next time.

Sorry but I don't have an email address - not needed one yet - so can't
check it out.
I look forward to checking out new additions as and when. All the best with
the site.

Cheers, Mike.
