Comparatively new Gateway laptop, XP home, IE6, linksys 2.4 router. this
computer will not run IE on it. Shows connection excellent on the tool bar,
router works on another computer, using dsl connection. Works when I plug
into the router but Not wireless. Have downloaded and run winsock fix. have
compared settings on working and non working computers, any other suggestions

Do you have XP SP2 installed? Are you using the Linksys sodtware to
manage the wireless connection? What exactly happens when you try to
connect and fail? Does IE report that there's no connection, or do you
get a 'cannot display page" message?

Yes SP is installed, also loaded linksys software with computer hardwired to
router. Gateway has this irritating wizard that supposedly installs wireless
networks and I can't get around it.

When I go to any page using IE I get Unable to connect message saying no
internet connection exists. In the meantime, all troubleshooting and
networks say connected, speed excellent. and so on

I tried disconnecting the network adapter and repairing the connection.

this is really discouraging since the router dsl configuration is working
fine on two other computers

What I found was that the Linksys software did not work correctly with
SP2, but my symptoms were different from yours. I was able to connect,
but that a period of idle time, the connection would be dropped and the
machine could not reconnect to the router. Disabling the Linksys software
and using Xp's built-in wireless management fixed my problem. I also
didn't have a Gateway wizard to contend with, although this is a Gateway
machine.

I suggest you try posting to microsoft.public.windows.networking.wireless.
Someone there may be better able to help.
