Running a linksys wmp54GS wireless adaptor with Vista 32 bit PC.
Dell XPS410
Intel Duo core 6400 2.13
2gb ram
nvidia 7900GS card
Reason for trying to get correct card IDed:
Having blue screen crashes and reboot randomly daily and Dell tech wants me
to eleminate all hardware 1st.
Did Chkdsk routine and set up to stop auto restart to catch the code, am
waiting on today's daily crash ATM.
Issue at hand:
upon Installing the card, vista auto configs it for a broadcom 802.11g and
won't accept drivers or recognize the linksys card.
turned off PC, removed card, rebooted and turned off pc, reinstalled card
with same results, won;t see linksys card and installs broadcom dirvers.
Have contacted linksys and used their new driver install download for the
card, but no results.
Attempted to manually install and ended up having to restore the PC with
boot CD after system failed to reboot or load windows and slowed to snails
pace on diag attempts.
I removed device in device manager but vista reinstalls it as fast as I
remove it.
Attempted to update drivers, Vista searched folder where I unzipped linksys
files and replied that the current drivers were better than those and
wouldn't update.
Previous installation in XP system worked fine
Linksys tech feels Vista is the issue.
Any suggestions or tips on getting vista to see this card? something to turn
off auto install of this hardware and allow me to choose "have disk" option
to install it manually?
