Steve Frye

I want to link two parts of the same business letter so that what I type
into the one part appears in the other. If possible I'd like to make a
template that will create a document with this property.

For example, in the following message, I only want to type "ABC Company"
once (in the opening address).

Mr. John Smith
"ABC Company, Inc."
123 Elm St.
Mayberry, NY

Dear Mr. Smith,

I am selling a widget that is perfectly suited for use by "ABC Company,
Inc." I think it will boost the sales of "ABC Company, Inc." dramatically.

So, in conclusion, if you think "ABC Company, Inc." can use this widget,
please contact me.

In the template, I've tried selecting the text "ABC Company" and bookmarking
it, then using "Paste Special" to put a link somewhere else in the text.
But when I create a document from that template, the links get all mixed up
and don't work. It keeps asking me if I want to save the changes I made to
the template.

Hi Steve,

You can use formfields as in a protected document and use cross references
to the bookmark assigned to the formfield. Or better, use a userform. See
the article “How to create a Userform” at:

http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Userforms/CreateAUserForm.htm

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps
