i keep deleting the 'links' folder in ''favourites" (ie6) but it keeps
re-creating itself. any ideas why and how to kill it off?

You don't it will just keep coming back Windows has files
they deem as necessary and thats that. Windows what can
one say?

Download Tweak UI for XP, click on the Explorer tree header, uncheck the
Show
Links option.
