Links won't open

Here's my question -

I have IE 6 and Win XP - all updated properly. I got this computer in
August and IE 6 has never opened links from OE6 properly. I have to copy
and paste the links manually for them to open. If I click on the link, a
blank IE window opens and nothing at all happens. I have Popup Stopper,
ZA and Nortons and I've tried turning off all 3 of those one at a time to
see if that is the problem. Nothing makes a bit of difference. I've also
gone through my other settings turning things on and off an that doesn't
seem to change my problem.

I had IE 6 on my old Win 98 computer and never had this happen before. It
also happens when I click on update links in other programs. ZA had an
update link pop up the other day, I clicked on it and nothing but a blank
window showed up.

Any ideas?

IE Help>About>Update Versions> Is Q828750 listed here? If not, go to
Windows Update (anti-virus application disabled the entire time and all
other running processes closed, please) to download/install it and any other
updates you may be missing. Installing Q828750 may fix your problem.

If it doesn't or Q828750 is already installed, you can re-register all the
DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679 or use this utility
by Ramesh which does the same thing:

No help. I did everything required and its still behaving exactly the
same. Blank page. There's a javascript link I need to use fairly
frequently on a state website and that hasn't worked either and still
doesn't. :o(

Any other suggestions?

[OK, we'll bottom post.] Don't let's mix the javascript problem into this.
Post separately about that to
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general.

Have you ever been to Windows Update since getting the PC in August?

Either of the two things I suggested should have fixed your problem.
Something else must be interfering, Debbie.

Update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. The recently
detected Trojan.Qhosts (or another one) may be present
(http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.qhosts.html).

Check your system for spyware using the steps outlined for HijackThis on
this page: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm. Post your files to the
recomended forum where two new IE MVPs frequently answer questions. Let us
know what they found and how things worked out.
