links to other places in word

Newbie question...

If I have a really long document how can I set up sort of an index page at
the beginning so that by clicking on a particular title will go straight to
that page? Do I have to use hyperlinks or is there an easier way?

Hi, Mat,

Look in the Word help for "Insert a Table of Contents". The page numbers
(and, in later versions of Word, each entire line) are automatically
hyperlinked to the locations of the headings.

That's what the Document Map toolbar button is for -- it looks like a magnifying glass superimposed
over a document window. Click it and Word opens a panel to the left of the document with all of
your headings listed. Click one to immediately display that heading in the main panel on the right.
