Last Sunday, right before I wanted to upload the updated pages to my site,
the power-supply of my computer broke down. I had to wait until this
evening before my computer was returned from the repair shop :-((

On top of that I received a letter from my ISP yesterday about the content
of my site. They had received, as they call it, several complaints
regarding links to a lot of sites containing illegal software. After I had
read that letter I called them and asked what they ment with 'illegal
software'. They told me that they consider 'free software' to be 'illegal
software', and they also told me that the complaints about my site were
from all over the world. After some discussion about 'freeware', 'free
software', 'illegal software/warez' they told me that they would block the
access to my site today at 20.30 hrs. local time (GMT+1.00). I checked my
site at that time, and they really deleted it :-((

I now have to try to find an other ISP for my site.

I'll keep you informed.

With kind regards,

OMG are they real or what?
Who are these ill informed idiots at your ex ISP?
Hope you find an alternative ISP soon, and thanks for
all your hard work in the past - much appreciated

In the US, you would be able to take legal action against them for, among
other things, defamation.

That is hard to believe. Surely they have another site's complaints
mixed up with your site.

Unbelievable.

What complete and utter nonsense . . . *several* complaints?

Does the ISP have an email address?

Yikes!! What a frustrating time you've had :( I appreciate the site of
yours, as do many. I'd be happy to give you an account at netwonder for
the time being, until you move to a permanent home. Email me if you're
interested. webmaster at the netwonder.us domain.

That's crazy 'illegal software'. I'd like to send them an email with
license agreement examples and ask them to explain how they can interpret
the s/w to be illegal.

All's well that ends well?

I started to write "I've never heard anything so ridiculous." After a
moments reflection, I realized I should limit myself to "How
ridiculous. That's absurd." I suppose public domain software is
illegal, too!

Where shall we send _our_ complaints? I'm sure your post will elicit
a blizzard.

Hi Henk,
I now have to try to find an other ISP for my site.

Perhaps you could mention how big your whole site is in MB ? That
might make it easier for people to make recommendations and/or help
you directly.

You should also consider putting a "My new site is at....." at the old
address. When you get a new address.

Regards, John.

P.S. I got an authentication error with your email address. Has that
stopped too ? If so you might like to mention an alternate email
address.

Dear Sir,
I was notified of a problem concerning your ISP taking your
site down because of their lack of braincells (how on earth
they determined free software was illegal is beyond me), and
decided I would offer my help.

If you have not found yourself another host, I would be more than happy to
offer you webspace + sub-domain. I currently have the following available.

15MB Space
ASP + PHP support
Sub-domain [you.it-mate.co.uk]
24/7 FTP Access

Note: database's are not currently supported due to an as yet, unknown bug
in Windows Server 2003.

I'd obviously be offering it to you completely free. If you are
interested, let me know, with your chosen sub-domain name
(yourname.it-mate.co.uk) and it will be setup for you as soon as possible
