Whenever I click a link on a web page or embedded in a newsgroup, the screen
"flashes" momentarily but does not go out to the link address. I can take
the link address, copy it to the address line and the address in the link
work perfectly.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi Roller,

First, disable any pop-up killers which you may have installed.

Try this:

1. Click [Start] [Run] type:
(Press Enter after each command)
Regsvr32 /i URLMON.DLL
Regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll
Regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
Regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
Regsvr32 /i shell32.dll (For XP Only)

2. Restart Windows
3. Open IE [Tools] [Internet Options] [Programs] [Reset
Web Settings]

If this does not help, run this fix:
http://mvps.org/sramesh2k/utils/IEFix.exe

Manual procedure: (Microsoft Knowledge article link)

Ramseh;

Thanks for the reply. However I'm not having any luck. I haven't
intentionally loaded any pop-up killers and I don't know of anyplace in
windows XP (Home), IE6 or OE6 that has a selection that accidentally became
selected.

I tried items #1-3 and they didn't work.

I then went and your site to get the IEFix.exe, which D/L fine. However when
I went to run it wants the IEeplorer.exe form the SP1 disk, which I don't
have since I updated from the MS site. My version of IE6 is 6.0.2800.1106
and has SP1 listed in the "about" drop down window.

Any other suggestions?

Go to Windows Update and get all of the critical updates it offers you.

I have installed the latest update for IE6, Q824145.

It was windows update that started this mess. The program that scans my
computer for installed software crashed in the middle of the scan and
screwed up XP and IE6. The only way I was able to get going again was to do
a restore to the day before I went out to the windows update site.

Always make sure your anti-virus is disabled before using Windows Update.
