links from a custom show to a custom show

OK, I tried John's solution for my problem with making the transition works
with PowerPoint Viewer (read further if you exactly want to know what it
was). I made a custom show with my "choose slide" and I also made a show of
every single slide I had (25 "see" "animal" and 25 "hear" "animal"). I
changed the links in my "choose slide" (to get to the correct animal custom
show) and I made a transparent button over the animal in every custom show so
that when I click on it, it links to the custom show of my "choose slide".
Everything works fine. Except that when I press the finish button on my
"choose slide" I see all of the custom shows of the "choose slide" I used
during the activity (presentation). It's all right but I would have like the
kids to use it by themselves and it makes it a bit complicated to finish (you
have to press "esc" forever).
I tried to check the "play and return" box for my "choose slide" custom show
but then I go back to the slide I did my last choice on and it's not usable
anymore because I see the sentence I made before (for example "see"
"elephant") plus the animation don't play.
Any other idea?

Try a series of custom shows you won't need the blank slides then

I don't think this is the problem. My problem is for the "choose slide". I
didn't find any way to make it desapear after it has been used as a custom
slide show so the "choose slides" stack on each other.

It sounds as if they're "daisy chained," which results in the issue you're
describing.

I'm still wondering if the reason the links don't work correctly in your
original presentation is if they're attached to objects with no-line/no-fill
or 100% transparent fills or lines. If so, there's an easy fix for that and
you won't have to struggle with the custom shows and daisy-chain effect.

Christine,

Are you open to another approach? If so read on.

I do not like "linking" shows for the very reason you point out. Instead I
create a blank presentation and Insert the existing presentations in it.
Lets assume you have a new presentation with a single blank slide. Now
insert the other presentations into it.

The result will be that the first slide of each inserted presentation will
be displayed as a thumbnail that you may size at will. When you run the
presentation you simply click the thumbnail desired and it jumps to that
presentation.

The advantage here is that you are only running a single instance of
PowerPoint. If you close the "sub presentation" (one that you inserted.)
you are back to your original slide and are ready to run the others or
progress as desired.

Thank you for your answer Echo. I tried to reinstall the PowerPoint Viewer
but it didn't help.
All of the links are attached to objects with a 99% transparency.
What I did for now is have a big finish button appears on my "choose slide"
after I have been brought somewhere else by the link I clicked on. The button
links to "end show" by a mouse over action. So when I choose to end the show
on a "choose slide" (I have little button for that that is activated when I
click on it), all of the other "choose slides" I used are closed. I see them,
but I don't have to do anything to close them. So it's not so bad...

Thank you for this suggestion Austin. It seems very interesting. I tried it
but I did't get any thumbnails as you described. Do you use PP2003 ? Do all I
have to do is "Insert", "Slides from another show" ?
