Links don't retain order after shutdown

After organizing my links in my favorites list (whether it was particularly
or alphabetically-I tried both), closing the browser and then opening it up
again, I checked my links folder and they're all out of order.

My guess is that I messed with regedit one to many times but the reason I
messed with it was to try to fix this problem which I thought I did fix but
here it is again and I have no idea how I actually fixed... oh wait let me
try System Restore.

In the mean time, does anyone have any ideas?

Nevermind. I figured it out.

I went to the regedit (Start Menu>Run) and all the way to the Favorites
MenuOrder folder
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Favorites)
but instead of being an idiot and only deleting the the Order file for the
Favorites I deleted the one in Links too. :-P

Oh wait, it's not working. I guess I jumped the gun there.

Okay, to the Way-Back Machine! :-D

Hi,
It's been my experience that IE *will* eventually put Favorites in
alphabetical order, whether you want it to or not. ;-)

When right-clicking to "Sort by name," do it from the standard, default
Favorites button on the IE toolbar or from Start> Favorites- not the button
that opens a Favorites pane (Explorer Bar)

Deleting this key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\
MenuOrder\Favorites]
should have put all favorites in alphabetical order. You may be having
problems because there are too many favorites in one or more folders.
See:
259735 - Favorites May Not Sort in Alphabetical Order
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=259735

Try creating more folders within Favorites. This will also cut down on
scrolling and make individual shortcuts easier to find.

Only way I know how to "Sort by Name" is from the IE Menu Bar, I think it's
called (File Edit View Favorites Tools Help). Is that the place you mean?

I can sort alphabetically. Although, not by that process. It just does stay
that way when I close IE and come back.

Anyway, after trying a System Restore and failed I gave up on IE and I'm now
using Mozilla Firefox and it pretty good so far.
