Links do not open

Whenever I click a link, which should open in a new
window, internet explorer freezes up for a few seconds
and then does nothing. Sometimes it freezes up
completely. How can I fix this? I've tried right
clicking the link and selecting the "open in new window"
option, but the browser freezes up.

Frank,...

As you instructed, I checked all of the IE path
settings,...and ALL are set exactly as you stated,...with
the only exception being you used caps in part of your
path description,...and my settings are written in cap-
lower case format. This shouldn't make a difference,
should it?

Anyway,...I still have the problem with my system locking
up and freezing when I try to surf/browse the net.

Any more ideas?

Thanks,............................j.b.

No, that shouldn't make a difference.

Get and run these programs (if you test after each one you can stop when the
problem is gone):
Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Once installed make sure to update via online before scanning!
and
SpyBot - Search & Destroy -
http://security.kolla.de/
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
http://spybot.eon.net.au/
http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/
Once installed make sure to update via online before scanning!
and
BHO Demon: http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/bhod/

Until the problem is solved.

I've tried the suggestions and even tried searching for
answers, but IE 6 still freezes up whenever I try to open a
new window. Anything else I can try?

Internet Explorer "new Window" & Script error problems

The following fix solves the problem. Based on MSKB article:

SP1 is listed there. Also, I tried that fix and I can open
one, maybe two links in new windows, but then I'm back
where I started with the freezing.

What should be there? I tried an update today, so now
Q81859 is listed in addition to SP1. Any thoughts?

Q822925 (Aug. '03 Cumulative Patch for IE) should be listed, for one.
Q330994, if you use Outlook Express.

Are you updating via Windows Update? ...with your anti-virus application
disabled and with all other running processes closed?[/QUOTE]

I run the update without my anti-virus app. running. I did
update to the Aug '03 cumulative patch, but it's still slow
to open new links, and doesn't open some.

Ok, here's the log from "Hijack This" I'm not sure what it

Jen,
Did you scan your system for spyware?
Did you use HijackThis and post the log file to the suggested forum?
