I am ruinning Excel 2000. I have a workbook with external links (t
other workbooks). I want to delete those links, but cannot find them t
delete.

Ive even tried to (EDIT - CLEAR ALL) clear teh whole sheet, but th
links are still there.

Any advice????

If I do a FIND on .xls, it returns nothing, but when I do EDIT LINKS
it shows that links still exist to xls files.

Hmmmmmmmm

These have been the bane of my existence. Backup your file before yo
start these methods.

Always start link searchs by unprotecting all worksheets and unhidin
all worksheets.

Some ways to cure "invisible" links include:

1) With all worksheets open and unlocked, select the Edit menu the
Links. Try saving any external links to the current worksheet b
Changing Source to your current worksheet. This will often generate a
error if the reference is to a remote named range. But if the link i
to a un-named reference such as Sheet 1 $A$1 this update easil
enough.

This may also work if the reference is to a named range with the sam
name as a range on your worksheet, eg. Print_Area.

If editting the link fails by this method the trouble is that th
actual link properties are not revealed. You may also have to open th
"Source document" to change any links. I have even tried creating
dummy Source document (a file named the same as the missing file). Thi
can force an error message identifying the name range on the sourc
spreadsheet which I then create in my current worksheet and then Chang
the Source of the linked data.

2) Search in Names - open the Insert Names menu, then Define Names.
Scroll though the names listed and delete any with REF errors t
external spreadsheets.

3) Look for Macros attached to objects on your worksheets (uncommo
solution but a long-shot if stuck). This would involve right clickin
any object or button on your sheets and selecting Assign Macro..
removing any references to macros off your current worksheets.

Good luck
