I am trying to link up my work laptop (running WIN2000)
with my home PC (running XP). I just installed NETBEUI on
both machines.

Now access the 2000 PC from XP PC is working fine.

I can see the XP PC from my 2000 PC but when I tried to
enter into it, I got the following error message:

"\\home-1 is not accessible. There are currently no logon
servers available to service the logon request."

Can any one help?

Hmm...a couple of things to look into if you just want to access shared
folders on either machines.
Go into Folder Options (from the Control Panel) and un-checking "Use simple
file sharing (Recommended)" will give you your login prompt that you are
expecting.

Also, if you have downloaded SP2 for WinXP, it will automatically turn on
your firewall which could prevent any computer from accessing it.

Hi Karmen,

Thanks for your advice. I tried both disabling the
firewall and unchecking the "Use simple file sharing
(recommended)". But the same error still appears.

Anything else I can try?

Make sure that you've created a user on the XP machine
with the same exact name as the logged in user on the 2K
box - AFAIK XP will not allow "anonymous" connections - or
will default to giving "Guest" only access.

After you create the user on the XP Box, make sure you
give it permissions on whatever file and folders you are
wanting to access.

Thanks. I have done exactly what you suggested (create a
user on XP with exactly the same name as my 2K. I works
perfectly fine. Thanks!

Hi,

After getting it working ~ a week before, I tried
accessing my XP machine from my 2k laptop again last
night. Strangely, it gave me the same old error
message: "\\home-1 is not accessible. There are currently
no logon servers available to service the logon request."

I check my setting again on my XP machine and everything
recommended in previous messages are implemented.

Any idea why?

Thanks!
